The only one to wait at red light

It's 7:15 in the morning and there is mild traffic on road already. I approach an intersection and the signal turns amber. Very soon the signal becomes red. I come to a halt at the zebra crossing. Since I have to go straight I am in the middle lane. The traffic around me does not stop. All the trucks, cars and scooters don't bother to wait. Thankfully there is no one immediately behind me!

The red light counted down from 80 seconds. I turn off the engine to save fuel. The next batch of vehicles arrived. A bigger batch this time. And with 25 seconds left, some of them again jumped the signal. And the one's behind me started honking. I move a little, but apparently that was not enough for them to squeeze through. Signal finally turns green and I start rolling. And then the most awaited event takes place. The guy behind me appears on the side and gave me a stern look. I am poker face. He zooms ahead.

This is so common nowadays. And I am left wondering why are the educated ones acting so impatient? Can't we wait for half a minute (on average)? This will minimise the road accidents and trust me if everyone follows traffic rules, all of us will end up saving time.

But there is a silver lining...
1) I stop at all the red signals, and have noticed that few cars stop just after seeing me stop. And they wait patiently.
2) Once I saw that all the cars were waiting before the crossing. But sadly the stripes were still crowded - only from the motor bikes.
3) I travel to Noida daily, and Delhi is way better in terms of obedience to rules and human behaviour. Or should I say noida is much worse?

I am quite positive that I am not the only one to stop at red lights :) If all of us keep following rules and educate others as well, we can have better and safer roads. Can't we?
